I have California on my mind because Fabian are heading to one of our favorite places, Napa Valley this weekend. California style surely means many different things to many different people. In my mind, California style is defined by an effortless, relaxed quality that endures the test of time. This home has the same clean lines, warm interiors, and elegant simplicity that have become hallmarks not only of the firm’s work, but of Napa style in general.
Few people are as adept at executing California style as my good friend, Mark D Sikes. He designed this beautiful home in Northern California’s Portola Valley for some longtime clients of his. The house, which appears in the current issue of ELLE DECOR features Mark’s signature California-influenced aesthetic– picture a light, soothing palette, block-printed fabrics, warm woods, lots of textures, and a healthy dose of blue and white with that incomparable California sunshine streaming through the windows. Mark drew a lot of inspiration for the interior for the gardens designed by Janell Hobart of Denler Hobart Designs. The design team was rounded out by Kathy Scott of the exemplary San Francisco architecture firm, Walker Warner Architects. I am particularly smitten with the sunny guest bedroom. Which space is your favorite?
