Hello LDV readers. It’s Karima from A Note on Style with the November installment to my monthly series.
As I take stock on what I’ve been wearing lately – casual, comfortable clothing – I’m reminded that it’s the little details that propel an outfit from ordinary to interesting. Recognizing that I’ll continue to dress this way for the foreseeable future, I’m scrutinizing the purchases I’m making this season.
With the core of my wardrobe already intact – jeans, shirts, sweaters, etc. – anything I’m considering to add to the mix needs to be special. Styling colors in a fresh way, wearing knits with a modern silhouette or snapping up an eye-catching run-around sneaker would all make the cut. I want things that work back to jeans today yet will have a life later when dressing up returns. A Chanel tweed bag (new or resale) is a perfect example that transitions between the two, and a worthy investment any time.

Grey and camel are colors often reserved for classic, tailored pieces, but I love the palette worn in a casual way. Denim in various shades of grey bring a fresh note to the daily jean rotation. A camel sweater or blazer not only warms the cool tones but is softer, perhaps even more sophisticated, than black.
With these thoughts in mind, I’m choosing pieces that do more than add another layer. Do I already have scarves, sweaters and sneakers? Yes. But introducing fresh items with unique details or an interesting element will help me build a wardrobe that’s easy to style with my everyday uniform.
And in the vein of freshening things up, I’m switching gears with scents for the home. Diptyque is a seasonal favorite that I’ll stock up on and have several on hand for gifting.
