It’s been quite a while since I’ve written a “Fabulous Room” post, but on my recent trip to Birmingham, a city brimming with creative talent in the form of incredible architects, designers, and artists, I discovered this wonderful space designed by Janie Jones and Elizabeth Miles of Hundley Hilton Interiors. One of four spaces by this year’s Tastemakers at the Birmingham Antiques at the Gardens Show, this was definitely the crowd favorite and “Best in Show” with its mix of modern and vintage pieces, a touch of traditional thanks to a great floral chintz, and the super chic green hue that anchors the space. Let’s take a look around and see what Janie and Elizabeth have to say about the space they designed, shall we?
“We had a vision of a game room/lounge that projected our mentality of making interior design fun and creating spaces that are beautiful, playful and functional. We both love board games and cards and knew we had to have a game table in our space and we also love beautiful lines on furnishings and knew we wanted pieces that spoke to that. The jumping off point was the rich wall color, Benjamin Moore Borreal Forest AF-480, executed in a high gloss finish.”
“The commode/chest on the back wall is also locally sourced from Circa Interiors with a beautiful marble and Murano glass lamp and torchere sconces and art by local Birmingham artist Lindsey Porter. The art was a major color statement for us as we used mostly green and white in our interiors and allowed the art to tell the bulk of our color story, as if it were the flowers to our green base. It was our nod to the Gardens. The art came from three artists, Millie Sims (Elizabeth’s sister, and Charleston artist, who did the geometric Blue Heron, inspired by the Audubon collection), Lindsey Porter, and Martin Sumers (deceased artist whose work we borrowed on consignment from a friend of ours who is an art dealer in Atlanta – he did mostly figural studies of women).”
“We grounded the space with a beautiful vintage peach and green floral vintage rug locally sourced from Paige Albright Orientals. Then most importantly for the game room, we designed a game table that the incredible husband and wife duo of The CEH brought to life in a light burl wood for us. We also designed the coffee table that local fabricator SurfaceOne made for us in a beautiful black and white marble. The vintage brass and glass top bar was an obvious necessity for the game room as well. Must have a bar in a game room. We love the Italian black and brass lamps on the bar that belong to Janie.”
