Happy Friday! Wait, how is it already Friday again? It feels a bit like Groundhog Day around here. It’s been a pretty busy week. Truthfully, I am extremely grateful for the distraction and of course, for the design work that is keeping us busy and working. In addition, I have been spending a lot of time speaking to some fabulous and inspiring interior designers and creative entrepreneurs for The Style Files Podcast! This week, we released two amazing episodes. The first, features the incredibly charming Martyn Lawrence Bullard who shares his fascinating story which has taken him from being a young boy dreaming of Hollywood stardom in England to one of the most celebrated interior designers of our time with an enviable roster of A-List clients. He also shares some beautiful perspective on our current situation. Today, we are debuting another new episode featuring the wonderfully talented Alessandra Branca. Alessandra is so smart in her approach to design and in the way she runs her firm, but at the core of everything she does, there is passion. Passion for beauty, passion for classicism, passion for family, and passion for her native Italy. These are among my favorite episodes yet, so be sure to tune in! Here is what else has been on my radar this week!
ONE: A few years ago, I had the opportunity to see the incredible Christian Dior: Designer of Dreams exhibition when it first opened at the Musee des Arts Decoratifs in Paris. Not only was it amazing to see the beautiful story of the iconic fashion house told through some of their most memorable designs, but the artistry of the exhibit itself was a true site behold. If you need a little escape today, you can take a virtual tour of the famed exhibition which eventually made its way to London, Dallas, and other cities.
TWO: My friend Kate Rheinstein Brodsky owns the chicest, jewel box of a store, KRB, on New York’s Upper East Side. Her charming East Hampton house dating back to 1901 is currently featured in the new issue of Architectural Digest and it is such a lovely escape right now. The house is filled with color, pattern, and old-school touches filled with personality.
THREE: Speaking of escapes, is there anything better than a beautiful period drama? If you’re looking for something to watch this weekend, be sure to check out Belgravia on Epix. Belgravia is the latest production by Downton Abbey creator, Julian Fellowes and follows the secrets and scandals of London’s upper echelon of society in the 18th century.
FOUR: Up until this week of quarantine, I had been really disciplined about getting dressed every day, but six weeks into this work from home experience, I must confess that my motivation is waning. I have found that Emerson Fry’s India Collection is the happy medium between getting fully dressed and being comfortable at home. Billowy tops and chic caftans and dresses made from organic cotton make me feel like I am somewhere else. While I am staying put to do my part to flatten the curve, I wish I could go somewhere else– anywhere else. So I travel in my mind through memories of favorite places. The common thread is some of my favorite Emerson Fry pieces including the Bardot Top which I have in multiple colors, the Frances Marigold Dress, and their fantastic caftans which are a favorite staple for beach vacations.
FIVE: One of my indulgences in my usual life is frequent manicures and pedicures. My nails are painted red 99% of the time. Having to go back to painting my own nails has been an adjustment! I spent what felt like an entire Saturday removing my gel nail polish a couple of weekends ago. I am so right-hand dominant, that painting the nails on my right hand using my left hand always feels like an exercise in futility with sloppy results. All that aside, I recently discovered a new nail polish on Instagram that I am loving. As you know, regular nail polish chips quickly, especially when you choose a darker color such as red. Static Nails has a patented, non-toxic liquid lacquer formula that lasts up to 10 days. I’m happy to report that my red nails did not chip, even with frequent computer use and dishwashing for 5-6 days. I don’t know that I’ll make it to 10 days, but the last time I painted my own nails using my favorite OPI polish, I had chipped nail polish within one day, so this is a big improvement! Static’s polish goes on so smoothly and has amazing coverage. I’ve already ordered additional colors!
Have a wonderful weekend!
