Happy Friday! Can you believe it has been four weeks since we started staying at home? How are you feeling about the increased amount of time at home. In order to keep my mind in a positive place, I have found that staying busy is key. Thankfully, we are working on our clients’ projects remotely at full capacity, taking on smaller projects via our recently re-launched Design Concierge service, and you may have heard that I started a podcast! I have been so blown away by the wonderful outpouring of support for The Style Files Podcast! From the feedback I have been getting, it seems like everyone was craving a creative and inspiring outlet as well. In today’s Friday 5, I have rounded up the things that are helping me keep my mind in a positive place these days.

ONE: We debuted The Style Files Podcast with a star-studded roster including Bunny Williams, Mark D. Sikes, Jeffrey Bilhuber, Amanda Lindroth, and Nick Olsen on Wednesday. Today, I’ve released a new episode featuring potter and designer extraordinaire, Jonathan Adler! The conversation is funny, cheeky, and lighthearted. If you’re listening, let me know which episode has been your favorite so far and stay tuned for upcoming episodes with Martyn Lawrence Bullard, Young Huh, William McLure, Suzanne Kasler, and many other top design talents!

TWO: I am really making a concerted effort to continue getting dressed, doing my hair, and putting on my make-up each day. At least during the work week! All of the Zoom video meetings have kept me motivated to do so. I have been living in chic and comfy dresses as of late. My favorites are by Louisiana-based designer Sue Sartor and they are available at Paloma & Co now!

THREE: Arguably one of the most famous and accomplished interior designers in the business, Kelly Wearstler is a forced to be reckoned with in the world of design. She recently launched a MasterClass in which she teaches interior design. I’ve watched about half of the lessons so far and it is so beautifully produced and insightful. As a professional designer, I haven’t learned anything new so far per se, but it is super cool to see her creative process. If you’re a design enthusiast, I’d highly recommend this course. I signed up for MasterClass back in December and have taken several courses including an amazing one in which Anna Wintour teaches Creativity and Leadership as well as Business Leadership with Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz, Wine Appreciation with James Suckling, Cooking Techniques with Thomas Keller, and The Art of Negotiation with Chris Voss, a former FBI hostage negotiator. If you’re hoping to use this extra time at home for something positive– perhaps acquiring a new skill or perfecting an existing one, I highly recommend MasterClass for top-notch content.

FOURSociety Social is launching a 7 piece furniture collaboration with my friend, the talented interior designer Ariel Okin on April 11th, which will include both upholstery and casegoods. Roxy Owens, the founder of Society Social, and Okin are both equally passionate about marrying traditional design with stylish and affordable customization options for the next generation. 2019 saw a strong return to traditional aesthetics, with the “Grandmillennial” theme being a key trend – millennials devoted to classic decor sensibilities, with a twist. These consumers are forward thinking and social media driven; they want soul and personality. For the 2020 Spring collection, Owens and Okin set their sights on creating offerings for the customer who has an appreciation for traditional design elements, with a contemporary twist. The duo are excited to introduce their collection, The New Traditionalists – silhouettes inspired by historically important pieces, updated with pops of color and natural materials like wicker, grasscloth and rattan. The collection offers an array of styles, from an upholstered sofa inspired by Bunny Mellon’s legendary Antigua estate, to a grasscloth upholstered coffee table taking cues from the lines of Karl Springer’s iconic furniture, and a handmade rattan bookcase conceived with shelf height in mind, to house both books and objets beautifully. It all comes together for a beautiful balance of relaxed and refined, collected yet sophisticated. Personal favorites include the Amy Scalloped Console Table and the Bobbie Wicker Ottoman.

FIVE: Has anyone else noticed more aches and pains recently? I have a comfortable office chair at home, but I have admittedly been sitting a lot more and moving a lot less. I have found that stretching with yoga, pilates, and long walks have helped. I love these short segments from expert yogi Nadia Narain on MATCHESFASHION which are so easy to work in when I need a short break throughout the day.

Happy Easter or Passover– whichever you celebrate! These high holy holidays are a powerful reminder that hope springs eternal, even in the darkest times.
