A couple of weeks ago, Fabian and I spent a relaxing long weekend in Los Cabos. We had just spent a long weekend in Playa del Carmen at the Rosewood Mayakoba for my birthday a month earlier, but when the Grand Velas Los Cabos reached out to invite us to experience their five-star, all-inclusive resort, we couldn’t resist. Admittedly, we had never stayed at an all-inclusive resort before and as bona fide hotel snobs, we had some reservations. However, given the fact that Grand Velas is ranked #1 in hotels in San Jose del Cabo on TripAdvisor and it is a AAA Five Diamond resort with a score of 5.4 out of 5, our minds were put at ease. Grand Velas is redefining the all-inclusive by doing so at the most elevated level. From the moment we arrived, it was evident that the level of luxury and hospitality here is without compare. Rather than sitting at a check-in desk at the reception, we were taken to a terrace with sweeping views of the ocean and the resort to fill out our paperwork. Within minutes, we were greeted with Veuve Clicqout champagne with fruit caviar and a spa therapist came over to give us shoulder and neck massages. When we were greeted by our personal butler, she remarked that I looked so happy. I said “How could I not be? I’m by the ocean and have already had champagne and a massage!”

Grand Velas is home to the most extensive wine list in all of Mexico, it features to seven gourmet restaurants including Cocina de Autor run by two Michelin star chef Sidney Schutte, and is also home to the $25,000 taco. We didn’t spring for taco, but we did have several memorable meals along with premium wines and cocktails across the resort.

{We had a wine tasting in the art gallery with the resort’s master sommelier on our first night.}

One of the most distinguishing features of Grand Velas is that every single room on the property has an ocean view and is over 1,100 square feet. We were fortunate to have a Grand Class Ocean Front Suite with the most incredible views and a plunge pool on our terrace. Our room was well-appointed and very comfortable. We loved having coffee and breakfast on our terrace with the sound of the ocean waves crashing each morning. There are plenty of activities for the entire family at Grand Velas which features a kids club and teen club. For those of you with children, you’ll be interested in knowing that the resort has strollers, cribs, baby carriers, and any other gear you might need so that you don’t have to travel with it. They’ll even stock your room with diapers and your preferred snacks prior to your arrival!

Our favorite thing to do was to spend the afternoons by one of the four, massive, ocean-front pools. Of all the resorts we have stayed at in Mexico and the Caribbean, the pools here were by far the best. There were always plenty of loungers available, the poolside service was excellent, and the pools themselves were so beautiful and spacious that there were times when we felt like we had the whole place to ourselves.

{The Beach at Grand Velas isn’t swimmable because the surf is pretty rough which is typical of Cabo, but we didn’t miss it at all because the pools were so amazing.}

Another favorite experience was visiting the award-winning, 35,000 square foot SE Spa where I had the best massage I have had in recent memory and Fabian had an indulgent facial. Each service begins with a spiritual, energy cleansing ritual which I really appreciated. The best part of the spa is their 50 minute Spa Water Journey which is included with all spa services. The hydrotherapy ritual includes a sensation pool with various circuits, a polar pool and jacuzzi, sauna, ice room, and several other experiences. If you visit Grand Velas, the spa is an absolute must!

All in all, we were really impressed by Grand Velas Los Cabos. Fabian especially loved the transparency of the all-inclusive concept of knowing the overall cost per night up front and not having to worry about paying for drinks by the pool or closing out after every meal. We had the ease of an all-inclusive without sacrificing luxury, comfort, or the quality of the dining options. In fact, we’re already talking about going back next summer.
