Hello LDV readers! It’s Karima from A Note on Style. Summer is winding down but there’s no reason to shrug off a little style inspiration for the remainder of the season. If anything, now’s the time when my wardrobe starts to feel a little tired and needs a jolt of freshness. Knowing we still have several warm months ahead, today’s story features pieces to wear through the heat of August, then later work into looks for early fall. The black and tan palette above makes it easy to seamlessly integrate summer-friendly items into an early fall transitional wardrobe.
dress, rope bag, sandal, earrings, pouch, blush/lip tint
The colors found in a classic leopard pattern are the jumping-off point for this wear-now/wear-later story. I love how the warm undertones add richness and depth equally to both crisp summer whites or head-to-toe black. Leopard is a seasonless pattern and in the form of a calf hair sandal, a la Prada, a simple black dress is nudged into chic territory. As the temperature dips in early fall, pair the leopard sandals with jeans and a lightweight sweater or high-waisted pants and a blouse.
Back to that simple dress though. It can easily reach the 80’s in October, so a lightweight black dress would be sure to make several appearances. I like to have several available for rotation. To add a fall worthy element, my first choice would be to slip on a loafer with the dress to give it a fresh spin for the season. A brown belt would elevate the dress as well.
For the remainder of the month, I’ll continue to carry a summer bag that’s easy and light. My Clare V. knotted tote, which I’ve been wearing non-stop, has been my go-to. A number of zippered pouches in a variety of colors and patterns change the look instantly additionally making the set a travel-worthy combo.
Summer beauty is about applying just a few products with a light hand for a fresh, natural glow. I love products that multitask, so I’d slip Lilah J.’s lip and cheek tint in my bag for daytime touch-ups. Its warm tone will help me maintain a glow well into fall. Other favorite clean brands I use that pack a double punch include RMS Beauty and Westman Atelier.
Lastly, when the heat is on, I can’t be bothered with too much jewelry. Chunky gold hoops offer a hint of polish and act as a quiet balance to prints and textures in other accessories. Invest in a timeless pair of gold hoop earrings you can wear forever.
