Hello lovely LDV readers, Nancy of Marcus Design here and I’m happy to join you again today for a Dissecting the Details post. I’m a huge fan of the designer being showcased today, Charleston-based Marianne Simon, whose sophisticated and timeless style is sure to resonate with you.

Specifically, let’s dissect the 4 key elements that Marianne uses in designing stunning yet functional kitchens. The heart of the home, this is a space that is so important to plan accordingly. (Photography by Haris Kenjar unless otherwise noted).

Soft & Sophisticated Palette

The perfect mix of soft natural linens, neutral cabinetry, and often the touch of blue, the entire space reads as subtle and soothing. Much like the ocean, Marianne is an expert at taking a cue from natures majestic palettes. This creates a timeless feel that one would never tire of!

Natural Materials

Be it an abundance of heavily veined marble, wood ceiling beams or shelving, or basket-weave lanterns, Marianne layers texture and sophistication with natural elements. I love that the cold and warm tones play off of each other and the mix of metals play up that collected feel.

A Sink with a View

This is such a wonderful luxury, looking out onto a fantastic view while standing at the kitchen sink. It makes tiresome tasks a little less dreadful. Pay extra note to the amazing example directly above: what to do when there is no view? Marianne opened up the wall between the kitchen and dining room so her client could enjoy the ocean view from both rooms!

The Art of the Display

I love a beautiful spot to display dishes and collected objects. In each of the examples above you can see Marianne styles the shelving by grouping similar objects and keeping color soft and consistent. How incredible are the arched wood custom cabinets? And the cabinet & vintage glass paneled-door just above? Again, the words timeless and sophisticated are perfectly suited.
