I have admired the work of Tom Scheerer for many years. His first book, Tom Scheerer Decorates is still among my favorites. If you have it, then you remember the delightful surprise that lie below the dust jacket– a cane-patterned book cover. Since I had enjoyed Scheerer’s first book so much, I was thrilled to receive an advance copy from Vendome, an imprint at Abrams which published my book, Dream Design Live last year.

Scheerer’s new book, More Decorating picks up where his last tome left off, delving into how Scheerer went about establishing himself in the field of design and while focusing on old spaces such as his iconic first apartment on New York’s Upper East Side to newer projects he has completed for clients across the United States and his super chic Parisian apartment.  Divided into three sections– Town, Summer, and The Tropics, More Decorating takes us into Manhattan high-rises, a Parisian pied-a-terre, seaside vacation homes, and beachside cottages that exemplify the style Tom has come to be known for. Sophisticated yet relaxed; bold yet restrained, modern yet timeless, each of the homes featured is beautiful and inspiring. I think Miles Redd may have best described Tom’s style when he said “The thing I love best about Tom’s work is its wonderful polarities. It’s spirited and reserved. It’s exuberant and quiet. It’s never, ever vulgar, thanks to his Yankee understatement, but you always notice it.”
